So SQL 2008 is supported on Windows 2008 R2 once you get to Service Pack 1 or higher. So I would recommend upgrading to Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 since it is the latest service pack. Also, the only versions of SQL Server 2008 currently supported by Microsoft are SQL 2008 Service Pack 2 or higher. Microsoft only supports their server software at the current service pack or the previous service pack (for up to 12 months after the latest service pack is released). So either way, currently you aren't on a supported version of SQL Server 2008.

In Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (SP1), I tried to install MS SQL Server 2008 SP1 first before installing MS SQL Server 2008, but it can not go through in ‘Feature Selects’;

Because I do not install SQL Server 2008, no any Feature in combox, and can’t make any selection.

Does anyone meet this situation?

Thanks,

Rob,

You will continue to get the incompatibilities message. However, this should allow it to install successfully in the cases I have seen.

Hi Jaldo,

I haven't tested it but it should it. Since the fix was introduced in Service Pack 1 and the install process works the same for Service Pack 2, the workaround solution should work fine with Service Pack 2.

The target of this blog post was just before the release of SharePoint 2010 and to be looking at the capacity of the SQL server. Its target was not the high-end, large scale SQL Server environment that you seem to be describing or configuration optimization of an environment. I was trying to help the part-time SharePoint Administrator who doesn't really know SQL well and who doesn't have the time to even check those white papers to inspect some items to make sure they had capacity and were avoiding basic bottlenecks.

Also, I will completely agree that SharePoint can scale well above the 100GB limit. But for the basic administrator, with a multi-user collaborative environment specifically, it makes sense to follow that recommendation.

What a crock!

Don't mindlessly repeat recommendations if you are not an expert in that field.

You have mindlessly repeated some recommendations from general SQL Server best practices whitepapers...

The 100GB content database limit is COMPLETE RUBBISH!

Can you imagine keeping 25% free disk space on your SAN where you are paying $8000/TB? Ouch!

Perhaps you shold be talking about the need to optimise your tempdb system database as Sharepoint 2010 heavily utilisaed it.

Or perhaps how you should have 6-8GB of memory per core on your SQL Server instance. (8GB of memory for a small server... What a joke!)

I have been through all of these solutions and non of them worked. i thought I would KISS it! Keep it simple silly!

Create a 2nd calendar
copy everything from the original calendar to the 2nd calendar
then delete everything from the 1st calendar
then copy everything from the 2nd to the 1st and delete the 2nd. BAM! Amazing. I am pretty sure it deleted the corrupted files relevent to the error messages.

Hope it works for you!

I've tried all of this ... it seems like fishing in the dark. I've also poked around dozens of internet sites with hundreds of reports of this problem. I think it is safe to say it's a bug in the Microsoft Office 2007 & Exchange Server interface that only the guru's of Outlook at Microsoft will be able to solve. None of your suggestions work except turning off cached exchange mode. I don't know what turning off cached exchange mode might actually disable ... ? Oh well, good luck Microsoft!

Martin,

First, if you are exposing SharePoint to the Internet through a firewall and you are using one name externally (http://outsidename) and a different one internally (http://sharepoint), then you need to follow the <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2007/03/06/what-every-sharepoint-administrator-needs-to-know-about-alternate-access-mappings-part-1.aspx" rel="nofollow">advice in this article to properly configure your AAM</a>

Secondly, if you are just trying to do some testing externally and need to use a different IP address to go the URL you are testing, you can temporarily make an entry in your hosts files (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) to map an IP to a name for testing. Just using an IP externally will cause things like Content Query Web Parts to break.

J.D Wade is right. Manual delete did not solve my issue. Only when I cleared the “Use Cached Exchange Mode”, the message disappeared.

As manual delete did not work for me and I do not want to implement the workaround is there any other solution that I can try?

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me?

I have done a migration from one Exchange 2003 server to another exchange 2003 server. the reason for my upgrade was to replace my old exchange server with a newer and better one that we currently had. A couple users reported that their free/busy information was not being published to the exchange server. for example if they change the calendar setting to view someone’s calendar six months ahead of time it doesn’t take. Although in outlook its set to six months it doesn’t reflect...
Does someone have any ideas why I am not able to publish anyone’s calendars a few months into the future?

I just want to caution on turning off cache mode, you are fundamentally changing the configuration of Outlook and Exchange. You have stopped using the local .OST file and are putting more load on the Exchange server. In my opinion, you are avoiding finding the root cause of your issue and implementing a work around. You might have a corrupt local OST file and need to delete it and let it rebuild.

Harsh T's answer worked for me. I could never get the message about not being to clean free/busy information no matter what I did, until I took his suggestion and cleared the “Use Cached Exchange Mode” checkbox under the Account Setting menu.

Great job! Thanks very much, that message was really starting to tick me off!
